A few weeks ago we went to London for the weekend, we managed to pack in quite a few activities in the 2 days we were there for and one of them was afternoon tea. Obviously!
We booked the afternoon tea using afternoontea.co.uk. It's a great site that allowed us to narrow down our options by area and price and then we chose based on the menu and any pictures we could see.
A lot of the options were expensive for very little food and we knew we needed a certain amount of savoury food based on the drinks we planned on having afterwards...!
So the afternoon tea at the Cavendish in London was the winner and it was a great choice!
On arrival we were offered either the Duke or the Duchess option and with it came a matching cocktail. Being the dynamic duo that we are, we picked one of each as we share it all anyway.
The Duke and Duchess Afternoon Tea menus are below:
They are very similar but had a few items that were different so we wouldn't have been able to choose between them, luckily there was minimal judgement when we decided to go for one of each and our waiter was lovely.
With the Duke afternoon tea there was a whiskey cocktail served in the glass that looks like a pipe below, how cool is that! With the Duchess option there was a rose infused gin cocktail served in a tall cut glass design goblet, they were perfect!
The savoury range was really good. There were a few sandwiches, a toasted panini and a salmon blini, as well as a bruschetta and a mini quiche. They were all very tasty except the caviar, we weren't sure what to think of them!
In fact the coronation chicken sandwiches were particularly tasty and we would go back for them alone!
After this the cakes arrived in their own hamper. It was very pretty and opened up with cakes on either side and the central part was filled with scones, jam and cream too.
It also contained macaroons, tarts, brownies and vanilla pan cotta with berry compote - yum!
Have a look at the scones, they were still warm when they arrived!
It sure was a feast and we were absolutely stuffed afterwards!
The afternoon tea costs £29 but we managed to get some discount (20%?) by booking through the website mentioned above so that's worth doing if you are looking for an afternoon tea.
