What are your thoughts on dupes??
If you're anything like us you will love a bargain, but often the dupe isn't the same as the original product so I suppose it's each to their own with buying products that are copies of another.
The Glam Glow masks have been around for a few years now and have a huge following, I've only tried a sachet from them a while back and I did like it but can't really comment on regular usage. I'd love to try it, but at £42 for 50g of the Youthmud clearing treatment I just cannot justify it - being single and buying your own home is not good to your bank account!
However, the fabulous brand that is Lacura from Aldi UK has an Exfoliating Mud Mask that is very similar indeed.
The Mud Mask costs a mere £6 in comparison and promises a similar effect: more radiant and firmer feeling skin, smoother and brighter skin, as well as minimising fine lines, wrinkles and pores, and improving skin tone.
All you have to do is apply an even layer to clean dry skin and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. You remove it with warm water and a cloth and can use it once or twice a week.
The first time I used this I can't have cleansed my skin properly. I expected a tingly feeling but my face was ON FIRE so I was immediately put off, my face was very red and I was really worried. I washed it off within 10 seconds of putting it on and slapped on some aloe vera and prayed that I wasn't going to wake up in the morning with a missing face. It was painful and I'm not really sure what happened or why it caused the issue, I don't have an allergy to any of the ingredients.
My skin can be oddly sensitive but I haven't had an issue with any products I've tried including many masks and acid treatments for years so I was a bit concerned. However 2 weeks later I decided to be brave and try it again, otherwise it was going to be donated to someone else's collection!
To my relief it was fine, I still had a similar tingly feeling but it was nowhere near what it was before so I persevered and I'm so glad I did.
After one use, the spots on my face cleared up overnight and my skin looked clearer, less oily and the general look of my skin felt brighter.
The mask contains Witch Hazel to soothe skin, Walnut shell as an exfoliating agent, and Natural Clay to draw out impurities and absorb excess oil.
So this combination of products is obviously a hit with my skin! I had a breakout (caused by stress, lack of sleep and not taking my make up off one evening - naughty) and couldn't believe that they had all dried up by the next day. The redness and swelling had gone and with make up it barely looked like I had any - very impressed.
Unfortunately I lost the selfies I took with it when I changed my phone (I swear I backed everything up but there's always a few isn't there!!)
But you can see the consistency of the mask above, it's a similar grey colour to the apparent mask it's a copy of and is quite thin considering its appearance. It is grainy and dries on your face, so I felt like I had to put a hydrating moisturiser on afterwards but I do this most nights anyway.
To be honest I'm really impressed with this mask. I wouldn't recommend it for sensitive skin as it seems there's a possibility it could cause a big reaction, but this didn't happen on the second time for me.
I will definitely repurchase this for the sum of £6 and I hope there are more of these in store next time I visit as everyone seems to have snapped them up at the moment! What's even better about this is Lacura are a cruelty free range, as are all of Aldi's cosmetics, toiletries and household products so we're a big fan.
I hope they bring out more masks in the future, I could do with a hydrating one next time if you read this Lacura! And make these a part of your standard range if they're not already!
Have you tried the Mud Mask? What were your thoughts?
