NOTD Leopard Print Nails

Today's nails are another on from Makeup Savvy's 15 day nail challenge. Today is leopard print. Leopard print nails is something I love but I've never tried it before. I'm not great at detail nail art and don't have a nail art pen which I think would make it easier.

But here's my attempt. I used Max Factor Max Effect nail varnish in shade Ivory which is in fact a gorgeous glittery gold. I really like this shade.

Next I used Look Nail pop in the kimono which is a khaki shade with a hint of gold in some lights. This will definitely be used a lot through autumn. I'm really liking this nail varnish and really want more Look ones now. With the kimono I put little blobs (great describing word there) of nail varnish on each ring finger. (I'm sure you've seen by now I've not mastered nail art on all my nails) I put 5 to 6 blobs on each finger. Try not to make them perfectly round.

The next step is easiest done with a nail art pen, but if you are like me and don't have one a dotting tool, cocktail stick of kirby grip can be used. I used OPI Lincoln After Dark for the outline of the print, the trick is to add little dots and lines around the circles but not completely outline them.

I really want to try this more and get it a little neater next time and on all nails. The great thing about this is it can be done in lots of different colours too. What do you think of leopard? Is it one you'll try? Any tips for me?

NOTD - Tuxedo Nails

So Day 2 of our 21 days of nails! Today I'm showing you tuxedo nails. Everyone went crazy for these after Zooey Deschanel was spotted with this very cute manicure on the red carpet. I'm a little behind and decided to give it a try last Saturday as I was wearing a nude and pink dress and wanted some nail art to blend with it.

As I'm yet to own nail art pens (I use my dotting tool) and I don't have a steady hand I decided on a feature nail. You'll notice I favour this manicure a lot through these nail posts.

Firstly I painted a base coat of OPI Nail Envy Maintenance (the best at the moment for me) then I painted all of my nails with two coats of  OPI bubble bath. Its a gorgeous slightly sheer nude pink. Even though it's sheer I actually really like the colour which surprised me. It applied easily. I have the small bottles as I have the best of the best collection ( a great set of 10 mini OPI polishes in their most popular shades. I fully recommend it.)

When it was completely dry I started by doing the bow tie. I did two little triangles and a dot for this. You could use a kirby grip if you are like me and don't have nail pens. (I should add yet, as I don't think I can resist the Models Own stand much longer) I used OPI Lincoln After Dark for this. I always use this for my dark colour in nail art as I don't own black nail varnish.

Excuse my disgusting stubby nails, I bit all this hand the other day, naughty me!!

Then using my dotting tool I did 3 dots for buttons and used the brush in the pot for two triangles at the side. I really like this look and will definitely do it again.

Did you try this manicure before? Would you try it again? I think nail art pens would make it much easier.

NOTD matching my nails to my dress

I got distracted yesterday and forgot to post this. Last night I ended uo going to see spiderman. It was so good. Actually had to hold back tears at one point (I'm a crier at films) lots of cinema trips thus week as me and L are off to see magic mike. I can 't believe she'll have been in the country almost a week before I see her!

So onto to today's post. I spent last week at my parents. It was so nice to have a week to catch up with everyone as weekends I seem to spend rushing.

Whilst at home I took advantage of having time to paint my nails and did them to match my outfits for my planned nights out.

Here is the first outfit I matched my nails to.
Dress New Look spring sale
Blazer Next Christmas Sale
Belt Primark

Sorry I'm a bad blogger and only took finished photo's. But both designs are easy to do.
Firstly I wore this red dress for a meal with the family (you may have seen it before if you read the post on L's birthday night out) I picked it up in the new look sale a while back. I love the pattern on it and decided to try and do a feature nail with the pattern. I painted two coats of Avon Nailwear Pro+ in Real Red. I was pretty impressed with the opaqueness after one coat and it dried well.My nail art skills aren't good enough to do all my nails.

Using my trusty ebay dotting tool (I need to pick up nail art brushes soon) I started to create a fan shape with scollaped edges. I simplified the design a bit. I used OPI alpine white for this (I got the best of the best mini set for Christmas). It's great for nail art as its really opaque.

I drew to of the spikey white fan shapes on each of my ring fingers. Next I used No7 Grey skies (only £2 with a voucher) I drew little half circles as with my dotting tool I couldn't be precise enough to smaller spikes.

Lastly using OPI Lincoln After Dark I tried to paint little triangles at the bottom of the fan shape and then used the No7 grey skies to add stems.

And the final look. It's not an exact match the patter was too fiddley but I like the way it looks only being on one nail.

The other hand.

What do you think? Do you try to match nails to your outfit?
