COTW - Silicone in beauty products

After last weeks chemical of the week post went down so well here's today's instalment.

Today is silicone.

The sciencey (I know not a real word) bit. Silicon is mixed with groups such as methyl, ethyl or phenyl (you will see these names appear later on and are used in the ingredient lists found on products.) What the silicon is mixed with effects the properties of it, and will give a different result in products such as shampoo, I will explain what the different silicones do later on in this post.

Silicone is used in a wide variety of products. In the beauty industry you can find it in products such as shampoo and conditioner and foundations and primers. Silicones can help to make some beauty products work better but for others their short term effects seem good but don't last.

Beauty Rehab: The First Step is Admitting You Have a Problem

I've been reading a lot of posts the past few weeks about using things up, giving yourself a spending ban and making do with what you've got until the final debts from Christmas are finally paid off.

Part of me wanted to join you, post every week/month what I'd managed to use up and take a picture of my 'empties' before I threw them into the recycling.

Unfortunately I am 100% a product junkie, beauty obsessed and a complete hoarder of everything 'just in case'.
I've been like it all my life and can't help myself, but now I'm jobless and skint, but don't want to let go of my passion for cosmetics and shopping.

Cocktail Hour!

This cocktail is again representative of me at the end of this week.... a Zombie!

I've been inundated with Uni work, had loads of family stuff going on (nothing too bad btw!) and I've been attending the gym like a fiend, so by today I'm feeling a little/a lot non-human and more like a zombie shell!

This cocktail seemed the perfect choice and is a little more snazzy than your average long drink.

It's a rum based cocktail (again!) mixed with juices and sugar.

The recipe is usually along the lines of 1 part light rum, 1 part dark rum, 1 part apricot brandy, shaken with ice, pineapple juice, orange juice, 2 teaspoons of sugar and some lime juice. This mixture is poured into a tall glass over ice, and normally garnished with some pineapple or lime.

To create the 'Zombie effect', traditionally a shot of Bacardi 151 (75.5% bacardi rum, eek!) is added to the top of the cocktail  in order for it to be lit! I get so excited by cocktails on fire!

Baking

A bit of a different post. I just wanted to share some of the cakes I've made. I love baking, I find it great if I'm stressed out and find it relaxing. Do any of you bake? My favourite recipe has to be red velvet cupcakes, so tasty and easy to whip up.
