Warner Edwards Victoria's Rhubarb Gin from The Spirit Store

Well I'm going to be truly British and start by talking about the weather....what on earth is going on?!

One minute it's the longest heatwave and now w're back to rain, wind and storms. It's hard to keep up and I've taken to carrying sunglasses, a waterproof, sun cream and a cardigan with me at all times just to make sure!

Over the last few weeks of glorious sunshine we've been indulging in a few new drinks, gin has been a fast growing favourite for the last few years but I think we might have found 'the one'.

Meet the Warner Edwards Victoria's Rhubarb Gin:

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to find myself in a lovely converted farm building on a work trip in Harrington. It was a random choice but there weren't many decent looking places to stay near there, and it had a lovely little pub with a great menu so I booked in and thought nothing more.

Until of course I was in the pub and the gin menu caught my eye, it was full of Warner Edward's gin and although I'd tried one or two I hadn't tried many. So of course I made a choice and was chatting to the staff in the pub about it, only to find out that it was made just a few steps down the road!

I'd even run passed it earlier on (I was still training for the 3 Peaks challenge at the time so getting in a quick run whenever I could!). If only they had a shop and I would have stopped and picked up a few bottles!

One that particularly caught my eye was the Victoria's Rhubarb Gin, made from rhubarb grown in the traditional Victorian garden style

I mean the bottle itself is super pretty, it;s pink and fulfills all of my personal requirements. The label is classic British and I love the image of Queen Victoria herself in the background.

The bottle is sealed with wax and the harvest, batch and bottle number is on top so you know exactly which unique one you have, this is what I particularly love about gin is the amount of low number batch gins available that feel extra special.

The rhubarb itself is pressed on a traditional fruit press to extract the juice before adding this to their classic Dry Gin to make the pink and sweet but also tangy concoction. Each bottle ends up containing one third of rhubarb juice so you know you're getting good quality products and aren't being fobbed off with 'flavours' and E numbers.

We've both been enjoying this with your standard tonic, it's just so good on it's own that it's hard to stray from this. But having read that it also goes well with ginger ale I had to try it and can confirm it's also a great choice! Rhubarb and ginger has long been a popular option and it's not hard to see why, although make sure its ale and not beer for the best taste.

I'm due to go back to Harrington for another work trip in future so I know exactly where I'll be staying, I'm hoping next time I'm able to book in on one of their tasting tours or at least be able to pick up a bottle or two!

The Sloe Gin was a fantastic option with bitter lemon, but the Honeybee Gin speaks to the heart. We're both huge fans of bees on this blog and realise their importance, this is the first time the Royal Horticultural Slociety have partnered with a gin company and some of the proceeds go directly to helping the bee population by planting the wildflower seeds that come with the bottle.

You can find Victoria's Rhubarb Gin from The Spirit Store here, costing £31.49. The packaging has recently updated and I love the new design too!! They have a great range of the Warner Edwards gin, but also a whole load of others including Copper Head in a beautiful copper bottle and some Nordes Galician Gin and Mason's Yorkshire Tea Gin...yum!

Thank you so much to the Spirit Store for sending us this to try, I've already bought some for friends and family so our opinions are completely honest.

Have you tried Victoria's Rhubarb Gin? What's your favourite gin?
