Rimmel Apocolips Lip Velvet Matte Burning Lava

Hey All

Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was pretty awesome. Friday night was spent with Wagamamas and The Theory of Everything (i was not prepared for that film to make me cry as much as it did) it was a great film though. On Saturday it was a sorting out type day and a quick pop into town where i finally grabbed some Chelsea style boots. I found a bargain in Fat face reduced from £80 to £25. How could I leave them there. I finally got some excursions planning done for Iceland, I leave two weeks tomorrow. I'm so excited to go now. Yesterday started off way earlier than I'd like for a trip down to the welsh coastline to walk along the cliffs. It was so windy at points but a lush walk and felt good to be out walking.

Today's post is on a product that became instantly loved by bloggers and until Christmas eve I didn't own any of them. As soon a I saw apocolips I loved them. The strong colours, amazing pigmentation, lasting stain and glossy lips really seemed like the perfect lip product and after trying L's I was even more convinced even so I told myself I had enough lipsticks (said no girl ever!!).

On Christmas eve I realised I hadn't taken a red lipstick back to my parents house it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pick them up. Plus they were on 3 for 2. Picking colours took a while but after seeing the matte version I opted for these as I had found the original ones transfer a lot when glossy especially onto teeth.

Burning lava is your classic pillar box red. I wouldn't say it has any blue tones too it but it doesn't make the teeth look yellow because of this.

As with the original apocolips it has the doe foot applicator with the dip in it so it picks up enough product. The shape of it also helps to get a good line around the lips and has a good enough point to define the cupids bow.The matte colours apply to the lips so smoothly. They glide on and don't drag and feel dry on the lips as some matte textures can and don't flake off the lips. I do also find the texture easy to work with to get a well outlined lip. The only problem I have is the colour can sometimes bleed a little so before applying I usually just apply a little bit of an invisible lip liner. The pigmentation is as you would expect from this range. I love the bold colours.

I prefer that the matte colours don't transfer as much as the glossy colours but have kept all the good features that everyone liked with the original apocolips. The colour will initially transfer to a glass or something while it sets but not as badly as the glossy version. It leaves a great even stain to the lips but I do find myself reapplying as the first time it fades I find it gives the ring around the lips. If I then reapply it'll fade and stain the lips all over. I love wearing this to work if I'm going out after work especially as I know by then I have a fuss free perfect red lip.

Have you tried the matte version of the Apocolips?

Fitness Friday: Tips to Keep Your Fitness Resolutions

Hi all!

I'm starting the new year with so many ideas and I'm full of enthusiasm for the future especially with my fitness plans. Every Friday will continue to be Fitness Friday and I'll be blogging anything that takes my fancy on the topic from tips, recipes, workouts, class recommendations and inspiration.

I've been back to the gym and trying to get into a routine and creating more habits for myself so that it becomes as easy as possible to keep fit, keep my overeating at bay and get stronger ready for events in the summer. I'm trying to do as much as I can and stop making up useless excuses like these ones:

lets go

I've been using my usual tips to get me back in the game and I thought I'd share them with you in case you need any motivation to launch your fitness plans, so here's my top tips:

1) New gym gear - there's nothing that will get you motivated like some super cute, super hot sweat pants, running leggings and bright and colourful tops and sports bras. I'm bigger on top so prefer to wear patterned gym leggings and then brightly coloured baggy tshirts or neon sports bras and fitted black sports vests. - It is a funeral for the fat you know...
But I've seen some amazing neon animal print gym wear from H&M that I've also snapped up as motivation. The post christmas sales are a great time to stock up!
Want to know where I've got my reasoning for this tip? Have you ever seen a fitness guru on Instagram looking depressed in their neon gym kit?? Look at the Tone It Up girls Karena and Katrina, they look happy and beautiful and that's enough to get me on the treadmill!

2) Variety - I normally stick with a gym circuit that I make up including kettle bells, burpees etc to change things up plus I'm a very big Body Pump fan. But to shake things up for the new year I'm determined to try out more classes.
I've already been back to Body Combat on Monday for the first time in 6 months and I'm still aching in the shoulder area! I've also started my running plan to get to the 12 mile distance necessary for Tough Murder. Next Monday I'm going to Body Balance which I've been meaning to try for well over a year. Will be really interested to see how I do as flexibility and poise is not my strong point!

3) Goals - having a goal is always a great way to kick start your fitness plan and give you something to work for. I know that I have a 12km event in June and a 12 mile event in August and I also know that running is my weakest point so I've started early. I know from last year that I found it hard to increase my distance so I'm starting early and giving myself as much time as I can. The less the pressure and stress I put on myself the more enjoyable and hopefully easier it will be!
Even if it's a holiday or a wedding you have to go to, giving you a time frame will give you something to head towards.

4) Motivation - Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest are your number one goals here. Find people who are just like yourself and striving for a better you in 2015, follow fitness gurus and personal trainers with their own goals and use them as motivation. Otherwise there are plenty of 'celebrities' whether real or just social media experts who give enough inspiration on an hourly/daily basis that can get you to the gym. Emily Skye, the Tone It Up girls and Tana Ashlee are just a few but as soon as you being searching you'll find 100's of accounts! Best of all, they are totally free.
Women's Health and Women's Fitness are also both great sources of workout ideas, recipes and gym gear that you can read too. I buy every issue of both magazines and find it spurs me on!

5) Plan Ahead - Have no plans for the week? Schedule in your fitness so you don't forget about it and keep planning on 'going tomorrow'.

Busy week? Schedule it in like an appointment and don't miss it, you wouldn't miss work or meeting up with friends and 1 hour is only 4% of your day.

Have a busy weekend away and it's likely to be indulgent? Keep it simple in the week, make sure your diet is clean and you get your exercise done throughout Monday to Friday, that way you can enjoy your weekend off guilt free! It's all about balance and finding what works for you, but the guilty feeling is the worst so planning ahead can really help. My February is looking really busy so I'm using January to work off my Christmas pudding and save my money for my future plans. That way I know when I've had a few days of eating and drinking I can relax and know that I've been working out enough.

What are your top tips for keeping your fitness resolutions this year? Do you have any specific goals in mind for this year?

There are so many tips and tricks, and if you have a friend that can be your fitness buddy to get the new year off with a bang then even better as having a friend join you is one of the better ways of sticking to it.

If all else fails.....a personal favourite quote of mine from DailyHiit.com is this!

Nip and Fab Deep Cleansing Fix

Good morning!

Starting off with a cleanser feels like a good start to the year, especially one in a tub this size. This 300ml tub is up to 3 times the size of all other cleansers (normally they are 100-150ml) and so worth the £7.95 price tag - currently £5.30 on Boots!

001

Normally I'd be a bit nervy about the whole scooping my hand into a tub thing, but knowing that in wash my hands before I wash my face I'm not too bothered. The tub fits in with the usual Nip and Fab theme, by that I mean its appearance. It had a light blue and silver theme that matches the rest of their basic range.

I quite like it, but I do like the colours of their special ranges better, I.e.the viper venom range being green and dragons blood bring red orange. They just seem to stand out a bit better. That being said though, this is a great all around cleanser that doubles up as a mask and has so many uses!

002

003

The Deep Cleansing Fix is a multi purpose cleanser containing tea tree oil to cleanse pores, and sweet almond oil to nourish and smooth.
It can be used as a regular cleanser, an exfoliator when used with a muslin cloth, a mask when left on for 10 minutes or so, a hydrating mask when left on overnight and as a spot buster when applied directly to blemishes.
That's quite a list for one product but with a tub this size it would be rude not to try them out!

006

As a cleanser this works great, it even got quite a lot of my stubborn mascara off my lashes which is quite impressive. Its just like a cold cream cleanser applied to dry skin but I always use a muslin cloth and warm water to take it off so I'm not sure its use as an exfoliant is quite as clear! My skin has been enjoying using this and always feels really clean without that squeaky dry feeling.

As a mask it's also been really good, and I have to say even though I was dubious about its use as both a cleansing face mask and also an overnight hydrating treatment I have to agree. It has helped to clear up a few outbreaks and certainly hasn't dried them out when left on overnight so it is somewhat a miracle in my eyes!

Lastly using it as a spot buster and applying it directly has helped calm the redness down on quite a few spots. It hasn't made it go away which is to be expected really but reducing the size of the swelling and the red colouring helps to make it less noticeable and easier to cover with concealer.

007

I've heard a lot of people racing about this for a little while but its never been in stock on a day I was spending and so I've never got round to buying it. At one point I thought it had been discontinued but I can see how that they could never do that! Imagine the uproar, a super product such as this removed from the shelves!
I'm clearly a fan and am looking forward to seeing how long this lasts me. Really interested to see how good value it really is as the tub is just so big and the price is so reasonable.

Another hit from Nip and Fab, will you be running to store to pick some up? Its already sold out on the website!

Life lately

Hey All

Christmas is all done for another year and into 2015 already. I can’t believe our blog is going to be three very soon.  The past few months I’ve struggled to git in as much blogging as I’d like. I still love to blog but with a more demanding job and lot more uni work and life in general I seem to be down to once a week now. Massive thanks to L for keeping me going. It feels like ages since I’ve done a life update so I thought I’d share my Christmas time with you all. I hope everyone had an amazing one.

My holidays started by heading to the other half’s office for their annual beer brewing competition. Everyone in the office either brews their own beer, cider or larger or infuses a spirit. They then have an evening trying them all out and voting. It’s fair to say some people have this brewing stuff down. There was an amazing apple pie infusion. Others were not so tasty. One called goblin sweat was the first thing I had handed to me. Not tasty. It was such a fun evening and I love how social his work are.

I then headed home to my family for a week. We started the festive period with heading out for a few cocktails with my parents. A few espresso martinis later and I was certainly happy to be home. Home seemed to fly by. I swear my parents save up jobs until I’m home to help them out. My Christmas eve started off as normal with an early morning (urgh 5.30!!!) trip to the local supermarkets to get all the food. I’m impressed I even got a perfect winged liner when I had to get up and ready in 15 minutes! My dad and I then headed to our local outlet village to get presents. I usually grabbed myself something pretty, but no this year I bought waterproof trousers. My other half is changing me into this practical person!

Christmas day was spent with the family, lots of prosecco, kerplunk and frozen! It was a really good one. I do love Christmas time with the family. A day with everyone happy is always good. Before heading back to Cardiff I ended up spending the weekend with the other halfs family. His parents live near the coast so we took advantage of the lush weather and went walking along the beach! I love the beach in winter time when it’s a sunny day!
Unfortunately I had to work some of the bit in between Christmas and New Year. L made it a bit better for me with a trip to yo sushi after work one day and a naughty trip to Debenheams, hello urban decay liner set and completing a MAC eyeshadow quad. I have no will power.

New years eve isn’t something I’m a fan of so until the day before I had no plans. In the end I decided to go to a house party. We did dinner drinks and ended up chatting till 3am. It was just what I wanted I hate a big fussy new year!

This weekend I introduced L to paintballing for the first time. We headed down on Saturday to our local paintballing centre. It was pretty much raining all day so I wasn’t convinced how good it would be. In the end I think it added to it. All us ladies were getting stuck in and going for it. Much to the shock of the guy taking us out, he didn’t seem to understand women may chose to do paintballing too and be as good as the guys. The rain made all the set ups mudding so we were all slipping and sliding all over the place. It’s safe to say I have some pretty epic bruises! This was to celebrate my OHs birthday. After we headed back for a house party and were introduced to cards against humanity. We ended up having such a funny night and didn’t get to bed till 4.30am! Being in work right now is not a happy place when I’m so tired haha!

Hope you all had a great festive time!
