NOTD: Revlon Watermelon Fizz

If you haven't been following us on twitter or just haven't noticed our tweets, I am currently studying in an America Uni doing a 6 week module. It was really last minute so hardly had any time to prepare!
I've only been here a few days and am still settling in but so far I'm having an amazing time and eating lots of food ha!

So my posts may be a little irregular and I'm thanking the lord for WiFi and scheduling posts as although I love to write them, it's proving a little complicated when you're not at home and there's a 5 hour time difference.
So there may be a little change up in the normal posting, I hope you don't mind :)

I may put up some pictures of where I'm staying and what I'm doing if you would like to see them? Let me know :)

As for this post, I am about to show you my new favourite nail polish!

I haven't got an polishes from Revlon so this was the first one for my collection:

It's called Watermelon Fizz, and its a red jelly type nail polish with lots of glitter and when it dries it smells of WATERMELON! How amazing!

I did think at the beginning as we walked over to the stand that it was a little gimmicky, but when I tested it on my nail I thought that even if the smell doesn't work the colour and formula were gorgeous!

Just have to remember not to try and smell them whilst they're still wet as you'll get a whiff of chemicals instead haha.
I never know whether things like this are cool or not, it's not as if smelling your nails is generally a good thing to do is it?!
Ha, nobody wants to be caught sniffing their own fingers but I suppose having them smell of watermelon is better than the usual smell of nail polish.

Another bonus of the Revlon polishes is that they are formaldehyde and toluene free, always welcome in the CSI world!

As for how it comes out, just take a look for yourself!

It's an absolutely beautiful cherry red colour with a subtle amount of glitter in.
The amount makes them look super shiny rather than glittery and tacky and I am absolutely completely in love with it!

The best part was it only needed 2 coats, 1 coat was a thick jelly type layer that looked nice by itself as a thinner layer, but I prefer how it looks with the full 2 coats and gives a more vibrant effect.

I totally went overboard on taking these photos...I couldn't stop!

No matter how many I took, the photos just don't seem to do the colour justice and as it was my first Revlon purchase I think I got a bit over excited.

As you can see in the photos, the bottles are a very decent size for around $6, and the brush inside the bottle was definitely decent enough for me to use and gave an even finish quite easily.

Have you seen these at your local Revlon counter??

I bought mine in Superdrug using the latest 3 for 2 offer and was so impressed with the formula and colour that I'm tempted to go back for more when the next deal is out!
I love it so much it even came with me to America, and I only brought 4 different colour to be really strict!

What do you think of the colour? Would you like to see some photos of my American University trip? Or what I packed in my suitcase, make up or clothing?

Let me know :)

Review: Vichy Skincare

As always, my quest for perfect skincare continues!

A few weeks ago (probably more than 2 months now!) I bought a few products from Vichy.

When I bought them there was an offer on, when you bought the new Normaderm day moisturiser you got the full sized cleansing gel for free! It was worth £12 if I remember rightly so this was quite a bargain!

To make up the set I decided to buy the Normaderm night cream too, as I'm really picky about having matching day and night creams, is anyone else like this?!

First up is the Normaderm Hydrating care Moisturiser.

I should probably mention at this point that Vichy's products are paraben free and non-comodogenic, which as we all know is very promising and it's stamped all over the packaging!

They claim:
Our complete care for imperfection-prone skin.
Transforms 6 imperfection concerns.

-Blemishes
-Pores
-Shine
-Oily Skin
-Marks
-Uneven Complexion

To me this sounds like a lot of promises for a product that I hadn't heard of before I saw it on the shelf.

However I'm a sucker for lists and simple packaging so obviously my inner demon wanted it!
I would like no blemishes, no pores, no shine, marks or uneven complexion and would definitely like the banish my oily skin!

The moisturiser is white and quite thin in consistency, I absolutely LOVE it.

I truly believe that my skin has improved from using this, and whilst I've had a few spots I think this is due to the better weather causing my skin to excrete oil at an even higher rate than usual.

I'm hoping with such a good improvement over a small space of time I'm hoping that with time my pores will shrink a little and my skin will appear more even.

I bought the Normaderm night cream because I like a matching set of skincare and had to buy the night cream as well as the day one.

However I was mildly surprised to find that I also love this product too!
Surprising only because I hadn't intended to buy it, not because I thought it would be rubbish.

This product feels like a thicker version of the day moisturiser and when on the skin feels like a primer would.

I loved the fell of it as it was unexpected, it felt like it mattified my skin and made it feel like velvet!

I have definitely seen an improvement in my skin tone after using these two products combined, and am interested in trying out their Normaderm Total Mat Gel as it claims to control shine under make up all day which would be amazing right now!

I haven't used the cleanser yet as I also bought Liz Earle at the same time.....but I will be trialling it soon when the pump finishes.

Have you tried anything from Vichy?

My first professional Manicure

For Christmas my OH got me a Manicure at our local spa. I've been growing my nails for a while now after biting them for ages so I was excited to get my first manicure done.

The spa I went to used Leighton Denny nail varnishes, a brand I'd hadn't tried yet. I was excited by all the gorgeous colours they had and found it hard to choose. In the end the beautician suggested one from the new collection - shipwrecked a gorgeous pastel mint cream polish.

I also had a glitter topcoat put on top. This one is Angel Dust. This left a very subtle glitter top coat and only showed up in some lights.

It was great having them done and chatting to the beautician as she gave me a few tips to keep them at their best (apply a cuticle oil, use hand cream regularly, file and buff them gently once a week) I do most of these except buff. I need to get a buffing block soon as I was impressed with how smooth they felt after and the nail varnish applied so well.

As I said before I've never tried Leighton Denny before but I was impressed with the perfect finish of such a pale pastel after 2 coats (we all know it goes nicer when someone else applies it, but still).

Here is the overall finish, my nails were all shaped to match (something I never do) and looking pretty.

If you look closely you can just see the glitter. It was a light covering. The nail varnish is more warm toned than the photo shows.

But them the problems started. I'm not sure if it's just me but since I had it done (sat) I'd broken four nails by Tuesday and they felt week. I'm not sure if it was the buffing and filing process and my nails weren't used to it, or my nails are used to having OPI Nail Envy before being painted or all coincidence.

By Tuesday I was fed up of them breaking and there was a lot of chips on my nail tips so I took it off. For lasting four days is good for me for nail varnish but I'm slightly put off trying other nail varnishes from this range. Them breaking has made me worry about having other manicures done and makes spending £25 on one seem pointless.

Have any of you experience breakages from using Leighton Denny or after a professional manicure?

Any Advice?

Make Up Haul

Over the past few weeks I haven't been able to resist the great 3 for 2 offers across all of Superdrug make up and the 3 for 2 on Maybelline make up in boots. I'm very drawn to lipsticks at the moment. It's a product I used to not even think about considering but lately I'm favouring a bright pink lip. (suggestions on brands and shades to try appreciated!!)

First up Superdrug last week. I was instantly drawn to the Sally Hanson nail shades as I hadn't seen them before. I've only just started noticing Sally Hanson nail polishes in boots and Superdrug. This one is called Glitzy Gal and while the nail seems a bit cheap to me I love the polish. It's jam packed with glitter and only takes two coats. Will do a NOTD soon. I'm yet to try the look nail pop. This is in the shade kimono a duo chrome nail polish in a khaki and gold shade!

As I needed to get one more thing I went to the sleek stand. I was disappointed at first as there were none of the blush by 3 palettes and I'd been wanting one for ages! So we opened the draw below and there was one left in the shade Lace. This was the palette I'd wanted so I was pleased. L was with me at the time and also found the palette she wanted. I know you're not meant to but I do have a quick peek if what I want isn't on display. I have used the blushes everyday since I got them! I am in love with the colours!

A quick trip to boots for lunch ended up with these three. I'm definitely not normally a lip gloss girl but a super stay 10 hour lip tint caught my eye. (I was hoping it would be similar to the YSL glossy stains I'm currently lusting over) I will do Lipstick Monday's with all the lip products. I love love love this gloss. Does it last 10 hours...... No it doesn't but it's a gorgeous bright pink shade I'm happy to reapply (Forever Fuschia) I also picked up my favourite mascara ever! Been using it for 3 years now and don't think it'll be replaced. I've tried lots. And lastly the Maybelline colour pop in Shade 80 cherry pop, this is similar to the topshop cult pink glittery lipstick but gives a gorgeous sweep of red sheer cover and smells amazing like cherries! I'm going back for more colours.

And lastly I picked up two of the Maybelline Dual 24 hour stay lip products (they come with a balm and stain all in one). Can you see a pattern. I was so impressed with the Maybelline lip products. Originally I swatched these on my hand in the morning and had to go back and buy them as they had lasted all day even with lots of hand washing. Unfortunately the lasting power on the lips isn't quite as good but I still love them and would buy more. I got shades 195(Raspberry) and 510 (Red Passion), a bright pink and cherry red. I also picked up a new gel eyeliner as I've almost used my first pot I bought when it first come out. I love this product!

I've been spending loads but couldn't resist a good deal. Plus I'm loving a bright lipstick now the sun is shining. Have you taken advantage of the 3 for 2 offer?
