We were super lucky recently and were invited to the opening of the Brass Beetle, this is a new restaurant on Whitchurch Road in Cardiff and I think it fills a gap in the market.

The Brass Beetle
Their website states:
'We're here to fill you with good pizza, good cocktails, and an even better atmosphere. We really pride ourselves on using top-notch, delicious ingredients on all our wood-fired pizzas, all which can be washed down with our classic - with a twist - cocktails.'
So we couldn't wait to go and get stuck into the food and drink they were sharing on their opening night!
First of all, we absolutely love the decor. We're both huge fans of this colour green (it's in my house and all in my wardrobe) and loved the random arm chair fabrics plus the pictures on the walls. The beetles are really cool and we loved the vibe it gave.
The menus were also the same colour theme and we loved browsing the options of cocktails and food, they had some great choices available.
This is the part where we need to make a confession - we have no photos of the pizzas that were brought round because we are very hungry females and got stuck straight in! Oops...
If you'd like to see some pictures of the pizzas we'd recommend looking at their twitter page (@thebrassbeetle) but we can 100% vouch for the taste of them.
As we're vegetarian we went through their veggie and vegan options, these include garlic lentils, mozzarella and tomato (personal favourites of ours), roasted cauliflower, caramelised leeks, emmental and parsley (also tasty), and a charred red pepper, caramelised onion and garlic, mozzarella and cured egg yolk, and lastly the 'White Pizza' covered with ricotta, mozzarella, parmesan and parsley. They were all very very good and we really enjoyed them!
What we do have lots of photos of, are the cocktails! Standard.
We started off with an espresso martini and a mojito, these were great. The mojito was different to what I expected and was much stronger too! It was nice but definitely not as sweet as I was expecting, so not for the faint hearted!
Next we tried a Peach Gin and Tonic, and a Tall Brass Bramble. These were both very tasty and as expected, but I'd go back for a Peach G&T right now if I could - it was gorgeous!
After seeing Charlie (from Charlie's Chapter) order a Pornstar Martini, we knew we had to have some as well. They didn't disappoint and we always enjoy what we like to think is a 'free' shot of prosecco!
We then finished off what ended up being quite a boozy evening with a Peach Bourbon Thyme - interesting combination but it worked, and a Mint and Blackberry Mojito - as good as it sounds.
All in all it was a great evening and we really enjoyed ourselves. It was great to meet many other bloggers who we've spoken to online but never in person, and try out some of the great pizzas and cocktails that the Brass Beetle have available.
It's a great addition to the area and the pizza toppings are a good mix of classic and funky new options - special mention to the lentil pizza here, we loved it.
The only downside we could see is that £8.50 is quite hefty for a cocktail even in the centre of Cardiff and very few places can demand that price for a drink and get away with it. The cocktails are truly great and have a few ingredient combinations that we hadn't tried before, but for the area I think they will certainly have to either reduce the cost of them or start a few happy hours - even the big chains have to do this on the weekends and they may struggle to sell many otherwise.
Are you a fan of pizza and cocktails? Do you plan on visiting the Brass Beetle and testing out what they have to offer?
