Morning all!
The last few weeks I've been using some new skincare to get my skin in better shape for the summer. I don't currently have any plans to go away anywhere but having skin that doesn't require any make up or only light make up makes you feel a lot more free doesn't it?
My latest purchase has been from the Body Shop and their range called the Drops of Youth.
The Drops of Youth range is designed for those wanting to fight wrinkles and fine lines before they start to appear so it's ideal for many. Me and M have always tried to spend on skincare and try and prevent wrinkles from appearing, prevention is always easier than the cure!
We hope in 10 years time we will see the benefits of slathering on the many layers of products every day!
The Drops of Youth range contains a cleanser, cream, concentrate, eye concentrate, mask, wonderblur and lastly the peel. We have both picked up the concentrate and mask too and will definitely be sharing our thoughts on these very soon.
The Liquid Peel exfoliates your skin to help peel off impurities from the skin and lift off any dead skin cells and other residuals.
The consistenc of the peel is like a gel, it applies to your skin very easily and as you work it into your skin and around your face it melts to a liquid. The website states:
Continued use will leave a fresh, smoother and more luminous youthful-looking skin.
- Instantly feels like dead skin cells are lifted (88% agree*)
- Peels off impurities and pollutants (88% agree*)
- Skin feels cleansed from day’s pollution (86% agree*)
- *when tested on 109 women
You are supposed to use this on clean and dry skin, and massage it in for up to 20 seconds. During this time to gel will turn to a liquid, and then begin to form clumps, which you can see in the picture below.
This is actually your the dead skin cells being removed from your face and allowing the newer ones to come through. It's a bit of a grim thought but I'm up for anything that will help my skin look more glowing!
I've used this a number of times over the last 2 months and have had varying effects. Sometimes lots of clumps form, other times there are minimal so it would seem it really is doing a job as I also have scrubs I used to exfoliate once per week so it may be I don't need to use it as often as I have been.
The instructions say to use it 2-3 times per week but maybe 1-2 will be fine for me.
After using it I do get the 'squeaky clean' feeling and my skin feels very soft, applying any kind of serum or moisturiser afterwards seems to glide on and absorb quickly so I really like the results so far and I can tell my skin is better for using it.

The Liquid Peel is a great alternative for those you do not want to use abrasive scrubs on sensitive skins. I don't fully understand how this works though, and I would like to know what happens if you leave it for longer than the recommended maximum time of 20 seconds...will my skin go red? Will it fall off? Who knows!
I would definitely recommend it based on ease of use, it's super quick and doesn't require much time at all, and the results have been great. It definitely works well for my skin (I'm 29 and fighting with combination skin and ageing, hydration is key but can't overload the t-zone or I'm an oil slick by 11am!). So if you are similar to me then I would definitely recommend giving it a go.
The only downside I can see is a few comments on their website about it drying and sticking to the tiny hairs on your face, so this is something some of you may want to consider but it isn't something I had any problems with.
The Drops of Youth Liquid Peel costs £18 for 145ml and is available online and in store. They're not currently part of any promotions but the Body Shop have a loyalty club call the 'Love Your Body' club where you can collect points with purchases and redeem them against future purchases - we have found this very helpful so far!
What are your thoughts on peels like this? Do you prefer using a scrub to exfoliate or are you a fan of chemical exfoliants?
Let me know if you have any suggestions for future purchases!
